Get to know Atlantis Alkimos Primary

Hello Families!

Welcome to Atlantis Alkimos, located on-site at Alkimos Primary School. We were very excited to be a part of the foundation year at Alkimos Primary School, and look forward to building even stronger partnerships with the school, teachers and our Atlantis families. Our service operates out of the large undercover area, allowing us to create expansive zones focusing on a variety of different interests and activities.

Being on the school grounds means your children are familiar with both their surrounds and the children they are in the service with. This enables Atlantis to become a welcoming second home and somewhere the children want to be, rather than need to be.

We also have access to the shaded playground area, the climbing apparatus, school oval and basketball courts for outdoor play and physical activity; and the music room for quieter indoor activities.

Why choose us?

We are very fortunate to have a wonderful staff, comprised nearly entirely of University Students studying Early Childhood Education. This gives our staff members a wonderful understanding of children’s developmental stages and how important they, as Educators, are as positive role models and mentors.

We focus on each individual child’s personality and interests and encourage your child to write on the ‘What I want to do next week’ board, so we can incorporate those interests into our weekly program. We believe in a highly inclusive service and value each and every child we care for.

We believe in strong relationships and open two-way communication with all of our Families. We want you to always feel like you have a voice, after all this is your child and we know how precious they are! We are always here to listen to anything you have to say and will work with you on a solution should anything ever be of a concern.

If your child is often anxious about attending school, we do yoga with our Before School children to help calm them down and prepare their minds for the day of learning ahead.

What our Centre offers Families

We help families, especially new enrolments, settle into their new routine and ensure exceptional care for your children – providing guidance, support and experience for your child in important life skills to help them learn and grow.

We understand how difficult it can be to have your child in OSHC, so we spend a lot of time and attention in making this a smooth and pleasant experience for both yourself and your child alike. Some of the things we offer are:

  • Family Workshops and Seminars on important topics
  • Regular and consistent communication via our Facebook Page, Parent Evenings and emails
  • Access to the Atlantis Families App – providing secure, real time updates so you can feel in-touch and up-to-date

In addition to this, we pride ourselves on getting to know your family. We will know you and your family on a first-name basis and will build a strong and meaningful relationship that enables us to work with you, in partnership with the school, to provide the best possible care for your little ones.

What makes our Centre special?

Atlantis Alkimos is lucky enough to have a Sports Coach come in twice a week to facilitate activities and work with your children, to incorporate their interests and learn new skills. These are designed to suit a variety of interests and capabilities.

For children who may have difficulty in identifying and communicating their feelings, we bring in a professional who teaches the children to express themselves through Beat Boxing and Rapping. This has been met with great success.

We have a School Garden that we tend to with our little ‘green thumb’ enthusiasts, providing that ever important link to the physical world, and we love cooking and creating delicious healthy treats for the whole family. Our play kitchen also provides a wonderful opportunity for imaginative play and the development of social skills.

Other activities we offer for your child to engage in should they show an interest are:

  • Sensory activities
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Music
  • Homework Club
  • Reading
  • Yoga
  • Science

A quick chat with your Coordinator Mel

Hello Families, I am Mel, your Coordinator for Atlantis Alkimos.

I have worked in the Early Childhood Education and Care industry for over 20-years, having initially started my career in the UK as a Kindy Teacher when my children were young. I do the job that I do, as I find teaching and nurturing children incredibly rewarding. It gives me a great sense of purpose.

I love that no day is ever the same and every single day is filled with fun and laughter.

My most memorable moment from my job so far is from when I was lucky enough to work with an Additional Needs child with a hearing impairment. When she came to our Centre for the first time with Cochlea Implants and was able to hear our voices, the smiles on everyone’s faces, especially hers, were unforgettable.

My favourite activities to do with children are Art and Craft based, as they are adaptable for all ages and foster great imagination. We have created some incredible works of art that the children have thoroughly enjoyed making.

I hope to meet your family soon.

Mel
